While acknowledging the need for sustainability, these groups argue the plan lacks a commitment to a targeted reform of the CFP, noting the framework has not seen a comprehensive update since 2013.

Carmen Crespo Díaz, Chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Fisheries, supported these industry concerns, stating the current policy fails to meet the needs of modern fishers and coastal communities. She has called on the Commission to establish a precise timeline for reform, specifically requesting a legislative proposal in the first half of 2027.
