In late June 2024 the EU‑funded INDTEGRATE project launched a three‑year pilot to demonstrate green‑hydrogen production for energy‑intensive sectors, combining renewable electricity, waste‑heat recovery and digital‑twin optimisation. By June 2026 the Horizon Europe‑funded INDTEGRATE consortium – comprising Greek development consultants, leading manufacturers, research centres and universities – held its inaugural meeting, outlining pilot installations of fuel‑cell systems and advanced digital‑twin tools in real industrial plants. In July 2026 the Spanish government, through the Institute for Diversification and Energy Savings (IDAE), granted Repsol €133.3 million to build a 50 MW PEM electrolyser at the Atlas plant in A Coruña and €49.8 million for a 12.27 MW project in Puertollano, with a ten‑year production subsidy of €2.2 per kilogram covering roughly 60 000 t yr⁻¹. The Andalusian Onuba hub continues to attract about €1 billion of investment. The EU’s Hydrogen Mechanism opened a new call for hydrogen‑related infrastructure, with expressions of interest due by 7 September 2026. A market survey for the Nordic‑Baltic Hydrogen Corridor forecasts annual demand of 79 TWh by 2040 and a corridor capacity of 91 TWh. In August 2026, Spain’s Ministry for the Ecological Transition (MITECO) approved €274.2 million in aid for renewable hydrogen projects in Castilla-La Mancha, Galicia, and Aragón, utilizing NextGenerationEU funds. Repsol emerged as the primary beneficiary, receiving approximately €183.18 million for its Atlas and P-HYNET projects. Other funding supported projects by Doña Urraca Energy (Quixotgen), AccionaPlug, and ZaragozaH2V. These subsidies certify 100% renewable hydrogen and require compliance with “do no significant harm” criteria. Simultaneously, industrial decarbonization efforts in Puertollano progressed with the Hydnum Steel project. Supported by €150 million from COFIDES and PERTE for Industrial Decarbonization, the project aims to build the Iberian Peninsula's first clean steel factory using green hydrogen and renewable energy, with total investments expected to exceed €1.5 billion.
