Austria’s nationwide traffic‑fine catalogue took effect on 1 January 2027, standardising rates and raising most penalties by up to 50 %. Speeding more than 30 km/h now incurs a minimum fine of €200 and the maximum for the most serious offences rose from €5 000 to €6 000, generating an estimated extra €80 million in revenue each year. The reform also introduced stricter rules for electric two‑wheelers: helmets are mandatory for riders up to 14 years on e‑bikes and 16 years on e‑scooters; e‑mopeds are re‑classified as motor vehicles, barred from bike paths, required to carry licence plates, insurance and a 45 km/h speed limit, with a universal fall‑helmet rule slated for October 2026. From 1 February 2027 Austria will abandon the adhesive “Pickerl” toll sticker, offering only a digital vignette for all motorways. Prices for 2026 were set at €9.60 for a day, €12.80 for ten days, €32.00 for two months and €106.80 for a year, indexed to the consumer‑price index. ASFINAG warned against unauthorised sellers and listed ADAC, Autopay and Tolltickets among authorised vendors. In July 2026 Austria announced vignette exemptions for four motorway sections – the A12 Alpine‑inlet, the A1 West Autobahn border stretch, the A14 between Hörbranz and Hohenems and a future A26 segment – for vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes, easing travel for German motorists heading to ski resorts or Italy. Further guidance clarified that digital Digital 1‑day and 10‑day vignettes activate immediately, while 2‑month and annual tickets become valid from the 18th day after purchase, reflecting EU consumer‑protection periods.
