Various charitable initiatives have launched across Europe to collect holiday aid for vulnerable populations, particularly in Eastern Europe. In Liechtenstein, the ‘Christmas in a Shoebox’ campaign involves local collaborations, such as with the Heilpädagogisches Zentrum in Schaan, to provide gifts to children in over 100 countries. In Germany, multiple organizations are coordinating relief efforts. The Marzahn-Hellersdorf Volunteer Agency is collecting items for schools and social institutions in Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Ukraine. Further efforts include the Johanniter-Weihnachtstrucker initiative, which seeks food and hygiene donations for families, the elderly, and individuals in Albania, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine. Additionally, the Round-Table-Familie is conducting the Weihnachtspäckchenkonvoi campaign, focusing on providing toys, clothing, and stationery to children in rural areas of Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova, and Ukraine. New community-led drives in Germany have expanded these efforts. In Geilenkirchen, the ‘Friedensboxen im Kreis Heinsberg’ initiative is collecting shoe boxes filled with new items like stuffed animals, stationery, clothing, and sweets for children in the Nikopol district of Ukraine. Meanwhile, in Velbert, the ‘Weihnachten im Schuhkarton’ campaign has moved its central collection point to the Christuskirche. This campaign distributes donations to children across a wide range of countries, including Ukraine, Bulgaria, Estonia, Georgia, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Hungary.
