Recent judicial proceedings in Germany and Romania have resulted in life imprisonment sentences for men convicted of murdering former or extramarital partners. In Bremen, Germany, a 33-year-old man was sentenced to life for a 2025 stabbing attack in the Kattenturm district. The court described the act as “a kind of execution” after the defendant ambushed his former partner and injured her son during the assault. Due to the “particular gravity of guilt,” the court indicated early release is unlikely. In Prahova County, Romania, a 53-year-old man was sentenced to life for the premeditated murder of his extramarital partner in September 2025. The perpetrator used a vehicle to strike the victim and subsequently assaulted her before driving over her body. The court also ordered an insurance company to pay 135,000 euros in moral damages to the victim’s family. In a subsequent ruling in Prahova, Ion Galeș was also sentenced to life imprisonment for the premeditated murder of his partner, involving a physical assault and being run over by a vehicle.
