European endurance racing calendar changes

Entities: Automobile Club de l'Ouest · FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) · Pierre Fillon · Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) · Middle‑East conflict

Overview

In late June 2026 the GT World Challenge Europe announced that its Monza endurance round would be moved to Imola for the 2027 season. A month later, in July 2026, the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) cancelled its planned season‑ending events in Qatar and Bahrain because of the ongoing Middle‑East conflict and approved two European replacements: a six‑hour race at Barcelona’s Circuit de Barcelona‑Catalunya in October and a six‑hour race at Monza in November.

On 28 July 2026 the FIA World Motor Sport Council confirmed the revisions through an electronic vote, citing escalating security and logistical challenges in the Gulf. The 6 Hours of Barcelona will run 16‑18 October 2026, marking the series’ inaugural race at the circuit, while the 6 Hours of Moniza will take place 6‑8 November 2026, returning after a hiatus since 2023. Both events will award the standard 25 championship points rather than the 1.5‑times bonus points originally planned for the Gulf races, and organisers thanked Qatar and Bahrain for their cooperation, reaffirming an intention to revisit those venues in 2027.

The calendar shift also affected related series: the GT World Challenge Europe season‑ending race at Portimão was moved to a Saturday evening to enable drivers to compete in both the Barcelona and Monza events, and the traditional rookie test scheduled after the Bahrain finale will not be held this year.
