Developments in green and renewable hydrogen production and infrastructure are expanding across Europe. In Belgium, Power to Hydrogen (P2H2) has launched commercial green hydrogen production at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges using a 500 kW system with large-scale anion exchange membrane (AEM) electrolyzer stacks. This system is designed to produce up to 70 tons of green hydrogen annually for the mobility and chemical sectors, with production capacity adjustable based on electricity prices. Further advancements include the Goliat project, a European initiative involving Airbus and 15 partners to develop liquid hydrogen (LH2) handling and refueling technologies for commercial aviation. As part of this, Ebara Elliott Energy is supplying a specialized LH2 pump system for a hydrogen tanker truck. Additionally, in the Netherlands, Perpetual Next and Lhyfe Delfzijl are exploring a partnership to supply renewable hydrogen to a planned biomethanol plant, aiming to support the decarbonization of the maritime and chemical industries. In Germany and Austria, Verbund and EWE have announced a joint venture, ‘CHC Elektrolyse JadeWeser’, to build an electrolyzer in Wesermarsch with a capacity of up to 500 megawatts. Expected to operate by 2032, the facility aims to produce approximately 50,000 tons of green hydrogen annually. However, executives noted that a final investment decision depends on EU production criteria; EWE CEO Stefan Dohler indicated that regulatory easing could lower production costs from 8–10 euros per kilogram to under 5 euros. Meanwhile, voestalpine and Verbund are expanding the H2FUTURE research pilot plant in Linz, Austria. Following a 16.4 million euro investment, the facility will add compression, purification, and storage capabilities, including five storage tanks to supply the HY4SMELT demonstration plant via pipeline starting in late 2027.
