European ice hockey clubs have transitioned from intensive preseason test matches into the 2026/2027 competitive season. Preseason activity included high-profile tournaments like the CCM-Cup and Sachsenlotto Cup in Germany, as well as various regional matchups across Austria, Italy, and Switzerland. In Germany’s DEL2, the season is well underway. The Ravensburg Towerstars, led by coach Johan Pennerborn, have demonstrated resilience. Despite facing roster challenges due to injuries and illness, they secured a 4-2 victory against EC Bad Nauheim and a 4-1 win over the Bietigheim Steelers. Recently, Ravensburg also ended ECDC Memmingen’s undefeated streak with a 6-5 overtime victory, despite Memmingen holding an earlier 5-2 lead. Following two consecutive away losses, the Towerstars secured a 5-3 away victory against the Bietigheim Steelers in a Baden-Württemberg derby. To compensate for injuries to forwards Odeen Tufto and Florin Ketterer, Pennerborn adjusted team formations. The win was supported by second-period efficiency and a strong performance by goaltender Ilya Sharipov. Simon Sezemsky opened the scoring in the 11th minute, and Matey Mrazek extended the lead to 0-2 in the 25th minute. ECDC Memmingen, entering its first DEL2 season, has experienced volatile results. While they achieved a dominant 6-0 home win against Lausitzer Füchse—highlighted by an Eddy Homjakovs hat trick and a jersey retirement ceremony for legends Milan Pfalzer and Sven Schirrmacher—the club has since struggled. Memmingen entered late October facing a five-game losing streak, with upcoming matchups against Eispiraten Crimmitschau and Starbulls Rosenheim. Other league developments include the Dresden Eislöwen securing a 6-2 comeback victory against Starbulls Rosenheim to move into sixth place, and the Lausitzer Füchse suffering a 2-4 loss to EHC Freiburg. Broader league activity continues with the 33rd season of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) and structural changes to Division 2 in Austria’s Carinthian Ice Hockey Association.
