European nautical trade fairs continue to demonstrate industry evolution through technological shifts, a focus on the luxury market, and efforts to attract new demographics. The 66th Genoa International Boat Show officially opened on October 1, 2026, inaugurated by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Organized by Confindustria Nautica, the event features over 1,000 vessels and 215 new models from 45 countries, utilizing a 4% larger water exhibition space. The show highlights a trend toward larger vessels and multihulls, noting a 28% increase in multihulls exhibited. Key exhibitors include Apreamare, presenting the Gozzo 42, and Maiora with the 36-meter Exuma yacht. Economic trends show a market divergence. While the Italian leisure boating industry reached a record turnover of 8.72 billion euros in 2025, industry leaders noted that the small boating sector is struggling. Piero Formenti, president of Confindustria Nautica, observed that while the high-end luxury segment maintains international leadership, Italian leisure boating registrations fell by 22% between 2015 and 2024 due to declining middle-class purchasing power. To support the sector, Genoa Mayor Silvia Salis announced initiatives to integrate the show with the city, including the ‘Blue Arena’ for public engagement and a new professional training program for maritime crews to attract young professionals. Additionally, FPT, an Iveco Group company, is participating in the show alongside Italian distributors AS Labruna, Bimotor, and Naval Motor Botti. FPT aims to leverage its sixty years of experience in the commercial marine sector to expand its presence in the recreational marine engine segment. Other major events maintain distinct priorities: the Cannes Yachting Festival is shifting focus toward the ‘quality and diversity of offerings’ to enhance exhibitor ROI, while the Southampton International Boat Show emphasizes practical gear, such as Icom’s ultra-slim VHF and AquaAmp’s marine-grade charging solutions.
