Authorities in France and Spain are investigating instances where law enforcement officers allegedly leaked sensitive information through private messaging platforms. In France, the Inspection Générale de la Police Nationale (IGPN) reported that officers used professional terminals to access and sell restricted data via Snapchat. Compromised databases included the File of Wanted Persons (FRP), the Criminal Record Processing system (TAJ), and the Vehicle Registration System (SIV), allowing unauthorized users to identify targets and vehicle owners. In Spain, a judge in Porriño launched an investigation into a Telegram group named ‘Alerta Policial Pontevedra.’ The group, which reportedly included approximately 300 members from the National Police, Civil Guard, and local police forces, allegedly shared criminal records, vehicle data, and photographs of identified individuals between 2020 and 2024. The judicial proceedings may address crimes such as the ‘discovery and revelation of secrets’ and breach of custody of documents. Recent developments indicate that the investigation into the ‘Alerta Policial Pontevedra’ group has transitioned into a secret judicial inquiry. Triggered by a complaint from a National Police inspector in Vigo, the probe examines the irregular flow of restricted information within the group, which was active from November 2020 until early 2026. While the group has since been closed, the proceedings remain under a secrecy order, limiting public details regarding specific participants or investigative steps.
