European sperm donor fertility fraud investigation

A Dutch sperm donor, identified as Simon, has admitted to fathering at least 199 children across several European countries, including the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium. This admission follows previous knowledge of 121 children.

To circumvent regulations regarding the number of families using his genetic material, Simon reportedly utilized multiple aliases such as Jesse, Johan, Daan, Sam, and Maarten. Investigations suggest he bypassed specialized clinics by contacting prospective parents directly via the internet, making it difficult for authorities to track the scale of his activities.

In Belgium, the Federal Agency for Medicines and Health Products has launched an investigation into whether these donations were conducted through fertility clinics or privately. Some mothers have accused the donor of lying about his number of offspring and sending messages of a sexual nature. Simon has stated he has ceased all donation activities and intends to seek professional help, admitting, “I now know that I have seriously disappointed them.”
