Travelers in this area utilize various regional airports to access the rail network and international destinations. The European Commission has launched the autumn 2026 application round for the Erasmus+ initiative, offering approximately 41,000 free travel tickets. Applications will be accepted electronically from October 1 to October 15, 2026. To be eligible, applicants must be 18 years old, specifically born between January 1, 2008, and December 31, 2008. Candidates must be citizens or residents of an EU member state, an EU overseas territory, or an Erasmus+ associated country, such as Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, or Turkey. ~~The selection process requires an online application and a quiz regarding the European Union and its youth initiatives.~~ Successful participants may travel for up to seven days within a one-month period between March 1, 2027, and May 31, 2028, though some reports suggest travel durations could extend up to 30 days. Since the program’s inception in 2018, nearly 473,000 young people have benefited from the initiative. Notably, the United Kingdom is expected to rejoin the program in 2027.
