Expansion of South Korean market ETFs
Overview
In mid-September 2026, new exchange-traded funds (ETFs) were launched to provide international investors with exposure to the South Korean market.
On September 15, Mirae Asset Global Investments (Hong Kong) listed the Global X KOSPI 200 ETF on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong. The fund tracks the KOSPI 200 Index, targeting sectors such as semiconductors, AI infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, batteries, and automobiles with an annual ongoing charge of 0.49%. Dennis Fok, co-CEO and Chief Investment Officer of ETFs at Mirae Asset Global Investments (Hong Kong), stated the product offers a “cost-efficient way for investors to participate in the long-term growth potential of the Korean market and its role in the AI ecosystem.”
Following this, Kiwoom Securities USA launched the KICK Korea Semiconductor Index ETF (KCHP) on the NYSE Arca. This fund specifically targets the South Korean semiconductor value chain, including memory, foundry, and design firms, with major holdings such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. The KCHP employs a modified market-capitalization-weighted system to manage risk and carries an annual expense ratio of 0.65%.
On September 24, 2026, the Bosera HKEX-KRX Semiconductor Index ETF (code: 03516) began trading on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. This product is the first to track a joint semiconductor index developed by the Hong Kong and Korea Exchanges, offering exposure to Hong Kong-listed semiconductor companies alongside the top 15 semiconductor leaders listed on the Korea Exchange. Peng Zeng, Chairman and CEO of Bosera International, noted the ETF provides “efficient access to key semiconductor leaders across both markets,” marking a milestone for cross-border financial innovation in Asian capital markets.
