Venezuelan aviation services are undergoing a period of expansion and recovery for both domestic and international routes. Domestic carrier Aeropostal has launched new commercial operations connecting Maracaibo with Caracas and Porlamar to support tourism and commerce. State-owned airline Conviasa has resumed flights to 19 strategic destinations, including domestic cities like Barcelona and Barquisimeto, as well as international locations such as Havana, Saint Lucia, and Mexico. This follows a two-month suspension caused by seismic activity in June. As of September 2026, Simón Bolívar International Airport has partially resumed commercial operations following damage from twin earthquakes on June 24. The airport is currently utilizing temporary modular terminals to facilitate travel, with a capacity of approximately 2,168 passengers per day. Travelers using these facilities face modified procedures, including bus transfers between aircraft and the terminal, and navigating logistics tents equipped with air conditioning and medical services. Transport Minister Francisco Garcés stated reported that aviation operations at Simón Bolívar International Airport are recovering, have reached 49% for domestic flights and 46% for international flights. Authorities aim to increase operations to 40% in the coming months, with a target to reach 60 percent 60% of previous capacity by late 2026 or early 2027. International connectivity is also increasing, with Copa Airlines scheduled to expand its frequency between Panama City and Caracas to two daily flights starting September 15, 2026. This expansion occurs as Venezuela’s main airport continues to utilize temporary infrastructure to manage passenger flow.
