Severe heatwaves continue to impact Greece and various regions of the United States. In Greece, temperatures have exceeded 40 degrees Celsius in several areas, with 155 meteorological stations recording at least 37 degrees Celsius. Forecasters warn of a new, intense heat spell arriving around August 28 that could last into early September, increasing the risk of wildfires due to high winds and dryness. In Greece, the National Meteorological Service (EMY) has issued warnings for high temperatures, noting that 155 out of 580 stations recorded values of 37°C or higher. In Agrinio, temperatures are forecast to hit 40°C. While the Meltemi winds may provide slight reprieve to northern and eastern areas, Western Greece and the Peloponnese are expected to remain under intense heat. Extreme temperature fluctuations were also observed in Crete, where a nearly 29°C difference was recorded between coastal and mountainous areas within a few hours. To mitigate the impact, Athens has made air-conditioned halls available to the public and established water stations for animals. In the United States, a dangerous heat dome is driving temperatures into triple digits across the Southern Plains, the Lower Mississippi Valley, and the Southwest. The National Weather Service has issued extreme heat warnings and advisories for Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Texas, and southern Arkansas. In north-central Texas, including Dallas, temperatures were expected to reach 109 degrees. Additionally, extreme heat warnings remain in effect for parts of Southern California, southern Nevada, and central and southwestern Arizona, where temperatures are expected to exceed 110 degrees.
