In Guanajuato, Mexico, the ‘canícula’ phenomenon brought temperatures up to 35 °C, though the Secretariat of Water and Environment reported intense rainfall in municipalities such as León, Irapuato, and Salamanca. In Guayaquil, Ecuador, residents experienced unusual heat between 32 °C and 35 °C with humidity levels reaching 79 %, deviating from the typically cooler August temperatures. By August 14, extreme heatwaves continued to impact the region. In El Salvador, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) reported that heatwave conditions affected 10 points across the country, with temperatures in Santa Rosa de Lima reaching 40.5 °C and several stations breaking historical records for August. Authorities expected the heatwave to persist until approximately August 20. In Mexico, the state of Sonora faced extreme heat, with maximum temperatures expected to reach between 43 °C and 47 °C in municipalities including San Luis Río Colorado, Caborca, and Hermosillo. High humidity levels were projected to push thermal sensations to 50 °C. Meanwhile, Guayaquil, Ecuador, continued to experience an atypical August, with temperatures remaining between 32 °C and 35 °C accompanied by high humidity.
