ExxonMobil advances Rovuma LNG project in Mozambique

In late July 2026, ExxonMobil highlighted its commitment to local participation in the Rovuma LNG megaproject in Cabo Delgado, announcing that Mozambican firms will be integrated into the project's supply chain. Shortly after, ExxonMobil and state-owned utility EDM disclosed a $1.1 million investment to extend the national electricity grid to the Quionga administrative post, with completion targeted for February 2027. By mid-August 2026, ExxonMobil and its Area 4 partners—including Eni, CNPC, KOGAS, and ADNOC's XRG—awarded approximately $1.1 billion in pre-investment contracts for Phase 1. These contracts cover critical long-lead upstream equipment, such as subsea production systems and offshore line pipe. Major suppliers include OneSubsea UK Limited and OneSubsea AS, supported by Aker Solutions Mozambique, Limitada. Additionally, Corinth Pipeworks secured a contract valued between $200 million and $250 million to manufacture approximately 250 km of steel piping for the subsea network. In early September 2026, Mota-Engil África, in a consortium with Bonatti Spa, secured a $207 million (€178 million) contract for preparatory works in Afungi.
