Following the Grand Prix weekend at MotorLand Aragón, tensions rose between MotoGP rider Fabio Quartararo and Yamaha. Quartararo, who is scheduled to leave the manufacturer after the 2026 season, refused to participate in long-term development projects for 2027, stating he did not wish to act as a ‘test rider’ for components that provided insufficient improvements. This friction was exacerbated by Yamaha’s decision to bar him from a planned Pirelli tire test at the Red Bull Ring. Yamaha leadership responded by criticizing Quartararo’s professionalism, with senior official Paolo Pavesio questioning his objectivity and Massimo Meregalli suggesting he emulate the attitude of Jack Miller. During the Misano Grand Prix weekend, the parties moved toward reconciliation. Yamaha Team Director Massimo Meregalli confirmed that a meeting was held to clarify the situation, stating, “I think I have understood the weight of the words spoken by Fabio after the Aragon GP. When he arrived yesterday, we clarified everything.” Quartararo acknowledged that his comments were driven by frustration, admitting, “perhaps we said things that were not right,” and expressed a need to manage his outbursts more delicately. Quartararo has since attributed the breakdown in the relationship to three consecutive seasons, from 2023 to 2025, where the team struggled to compete for top results. Despite this, both parties expressed a desire to conclude their remaining collaboration as positively as possible. As Quartararo prepares for his 2027 move to Honda, significant commercial shifts have been finalized. Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) officially announced the return of Red Bull as a primary factory sponsor for the 2027 season. Because factory team agreements take precedence, Quartararo will end his eight-season tenure as a Monster Energy ambassador.
