These local actions occur against a backdrop of rising mental health challenges in Brazil. Preliminary data from the Ministry of Social Security shows that 546,254 temporary disability benefits were granted for mental and behavioral disorders in 2025, representing a 15.66% increase from the previous year. As of May 2026, Brazil has updated its regulatory frameworks to address these challenges, requiring psychosocial risk factors to be integrated into Occupational Risk Management (GRO) and Risk Management Programs (PGR). This mandates that employers actively map work organization factors that may impact employee mental health. These domestic regulatory shifts occur alongside global concerns, as the World Health Organization estimates that mental health conditions cost the global economy approximately US$ 1 trillion annually due to lost productivity.
