The 2026 Farroupilha festivities in Rio Grande do Sul have commenced with the symbolic Chama Crioula ritual. Riders from various municipalities, including Sobradinho and Camaquã, are traveling to Rio Pardo to collect the symbolic flame, which will then be distributed to 30 traditionalist regions to mark the start of the celebrations. Preparations are intensifying for large-scale events scheduled through September. The festivities center on the theme ‘Jesuit and Guarani Heritage in Rio Grande do Sul: 400 Years of Culture and Tradition’. In Bento Gonçalves, the program includes musical performances by Joca Martins and Garotos de Ouro, the Vindima do Verso Festival, and the 14th Copa Bento de Laço, honoring Arquimede Paz da Conceição. In Porto Alegre, the 44th Acampamento Farroupilha at Parque da Harmonia is scheduled to run from August 29 to September 20. Due to weather forecasts, the assembly of final structures was moved forward to ensure completion by late August. The event expects over 2 million visitors and features approximately 120 cultural attractions, including the musical spectacle ‘Via Sacra Missioneira’ and the traditional Missa Crioula. Singer Fátima Gimenez serves as the patron of the festivities. Additional regional celebrations include the 20th Semana Farroupilha da Integração in Francisco Beltrão, scheduled for September 16 to 20 at the Parque de Exposições Jayme Canet Júnior, featuring artists such as Baitaca, Gaúcho da Fronteira, and Marinês Siqueira. Recent updates confirm these regional traditions continue to be a focal point of cultural activity, alongside other events like the Expointer 2026 family farming pavilion.
