Universal’s plan to relaunch the original *Fast & Furious* on Aug. 21, 2026 and debut the sequel *Fast Forever* on Mar. 17, 2028 remains stalled by a budget impasse. Earlier July reports flagged rising costs and the possibility of scaling back a $379 million production. On July 29, actor Alan Ritchson, who plays Aimes, Ritchson confirmed that principal photography has not started and that the studio faces “big problems” over the film’s expense, warning that a more efficient shooting approach, budget cuts, or even an indefinite suspension may be required. Despite the financial uncertainty, Vin Diesel announced on Aug. 1 The studio has now reiterated that the screenplay for *Fast & Furious 11* March 17, 2028 release date will be kept, but production is finished. The script, written by Michael Lesslie, was still on hold while Universal and franchise star Vin Diesel negotiate financing. Ritchson described by the project as “too expensive” and cited a disagreement over the budget gap. Diesel continues to praise Michael Lesslie’s finished script as “the best he has read in decades.” Production details remain unsettled: director Universal officials caution that if the gap cannot be closed the film could be scaled back, suspended, or cancelled. Director Louis Leterrier is still remains under contract negotiations and the full cast has not been confirmed. NBCUniversal also revealed plans for at least four live‑action series set in the franchise for on Peacock, expanding the universe beyond the final film. Fans continue to watch for any change in the release timetable while the franchise’s 25‑year cultural impact endures.
