On October 1, 24-year-old Maria Eduarda Santana Nascimento was killed during an attempted robbery in the southern zone of São Paulo. While she was driving to work on Estrada de Itapecerica, a suspect on a motorcycle attempted the robbery. A Civil Police investigator, Pedro Paulo Bassetti, intervened by firing at the suspect. However, Maria Eduarda was struck by a shot. Both the victim and the suspect died from their injuries at Campo Limpo Hospital. Authorities and forensic experts are investigating the incident to determine if the fatal bullet was fired by the suspect or the investigator. The Public Security Secretariat has stated that the Internal Affairs department will oversee the investigation. The Corregedoria-Geral da Polícia Civil has launched an inquiry to determine whether the fatal shot was fired by the police officer or the criminal. Security camera footage captured parts of the confrontation. The victim, known to friends and colleagues as ‘Duda’, was a professional in the technology and events sector.
