A 64-year-old woman, originally from Catalonia, died during a bull run in Ayna, Albacete, Spain, on September 5. The incident occurred around 10:55 AM during the town’s patron saint festivities for Santa María de lo Alto. The victim was positioned outside the protective barriers in the Las Cuevas area when she was charged by a bull. Witnesses and eyewitness videos show her attempting to run in the opposite direction to find safety, but the animal pursued and struck her multiple times, causing her to hit against a wall. Despite the rapid deployment of emergency services and a medicalized helicopter, she succumbed to her injuries while being transported to a helipad. A 60-year-old man also sustained a non-life-threatening injury to his arm from a different bull during the event. In response to the fatality, the Mayor of Ayna, Juan Ángel Martínez, and the Ayna City Council announced the immediate suspension of all scheduled festive activities, including parades and cattle releases. which were originally intended to continue until September 8.
