On September 21, 2026, merengue artist Julián Oro Duro (Gilberto Julián Sarante Perdomo) and his wife, Zeneida Socorro Castillo, were victims of a violent home invasion in the Brisa Oriental VI sector of Santo Domingo Este. The attack resulted in the death of Castillo due to craniofacial trauma and a neck wound. Oro Duro sustained an intracranial hemorrhage and craniofacial injuries but remained in stable condition. By September 25, 2026, the Ministry of Public Prosecution had filed formal charges against four suspects: Phillips Michael Tejeda Vásquez, Juan Carlos Hernández García (known as ‘Peña’), Kevin Dariel Germán Troncoso (known as ‘Yandel’), and 18-year-old Lawrence Mark Liranzo Marcos (known as ‘Chiquito’). Prosecutors allege the crime was premeditated and planned approximately one month in advance.
