Authorities in Burnaby are investigating separate fatal incidents on Highway 1. In late September, a two-vehicle collision occurred when a pickup truck entered westbound lanes, striking a sedan. The crash resulted in two deaths and one serious injury. Police arrested the pickup truck driver and indicated that alcohol may have been a contributing factor. In early October, the B.C. Highway Patrol began investigating the death of an adult male whose body was found in the eastbound lanes near Kensington Avenue. Investigators are treating the case as a potential hit-and-run, noting that the victim’s injuries are consistent with being struck by a vehicle. Authorities have requested witnesses or dash-cam footage from anyone driving in the area between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on the Tuesday morning the body was discovered. The eastbound lanes were temporarily closed during the investigation, with traffic diverted to Canada Way.
