He died the following morning despite treatment at the civil hospital in Cosenza. Simone Celebre, secretary‑general of the Fillea CGIL Calabria union, again labelled the death an “operaicidio,” urging immediate action on occupational safety, stricter inspections and concrete assistance for the victim’s family. On 26 July 1 August 2026, additional media reports reiterated Celebre’s calls, emphasizing the need for swift institutional response. These events sustain nationwide 40‑year‑old Maurizio Trenta collapsed on a house‑renovation site in Trenzano. Despite rapid emergency response, he died shortly after reaching hospital. The Carabinieri of Chiari opened an investigation and ATS technicians performed on‑site checks. The incident has deepened community mourning and reinforced union demands calls for stricter oversight, more frequent inspections, improved training, equipment‑maintenance investment systematic safety audits, better equipment maintenance, and stronger legal safeguards for all construction workers.
