Two separate fatal shooting incidents have been reported in different regions of Italy. In Montalbano Jonico, Matera, a 37-year-old man named Vincenzo D’Orsi died following an accidental shooting. The incident occurred while he and his brother were using rifles to frighten wild boars away from crops. A shot fired by the brother struck D’Orsi in the head; despite neurosurgery in Potenza, he succumbed to his injuries. The local mayor declared a period of municipal mourning while Carabinieri investigate the circumstances. In Baldissero d’Alba, Cuneo, 35-year-old homeowner and truck driver Roberto Mollo is under investigation for voluntary homicide following a fatal encounter at a farmhouse undergoing renovation. Mollo reported hearing suspicious noises and, believing a group of four to five individuals was attempting to steal construction materials, fired a 9mm Beretta into the darkness. The shooting resulted in the death of 36-year-old Gjovalin Lazri, a Turin resident with a criminal record for property crimes, who was struck in the neck and shoulder area. Investigators from the Asti Prosecutor's Office are working to determine if the use of force was justified. A critical focus of the probe is the distance between the parties; Lazri’s body was found approximately 30 to 40 meters from the farmhouse, and authorities are investigating whether he was struck while fleeing. While Mollo’s defense maintains he acted out of panic, forensic experts are conducting ballistic tests and an autopsy to reconstruct the trajectory of the 13 shots fired. Mollo reportedly told emergency services, ‘I had thieves in the house, and I defended myself. I was afraid.’ Authorities are also verifying the legality of the weapon's possession following Mollo's recent change of residence.
