Nordine El Talbi, a 41-year-old inspector with the Brussels-Capital/Ixelles anti-gang unit, was fatally shot on a Monday night. The incident occurred while El Talbi was conducting undercover reconnaissance during a carjacking investigation. He sustained a single gunshot wound to the head and died despite resuscitation efforts. Following the shooting, authorities arrested six suspects in connection with the killing. The group, consisting of five adults and one minor, includes Belgian nationals with criminal records related to drug trafficking. The arrests took place across three countries: two in Belgium, one at a train station in Paris, France, and three in Almería, Spain, while they were allegedly attempting to travel to Morocco. Recent investigative details from the Brussels Prosecutor, Julien Moani, indicate that the suspects are known to the judiciary. While four were detained in France and Spain, two suspects apprehended in Belgium are believed to be linked to stolen vehicles used in a violent robbery in Tubize that preceded the fatal incident. While Belgian authorities work to extradite the suspects from France and Spain, one suspect has claimed innocence, asserting he was merely a witness and that the actual killers fled the scene. In Almería, Spanish authorities and the Guardia Civil intercepted three suspects as they attempted to board a vessel bound for Morocco to evade capture. The investigation, which involved international police and judicial cooperation between Spain, Belgium, and France, has led to the issuance of a European Investigation Order to search a residence linked to the suspects for further evidence. Preliminary findings suggest the perpetrator may be a teenager aged 16 or 17, who was previously detained at a railway station in Paris.
