In late September 2026, a 47-year-old woman named Vanessa was fatally stabbed in the La Campana area of Sevilla. The attack occurred in a public area around 22:40 on a Saturday night and was allegedly carried out by her 56-year-old partner. Vanessa succumbed to her injuries at a health center shortly before midnight. The primary suspect barricaded himself in his residence following the attack. After a nearly twelve-hour standoff involving specialized Guardia Civil units, the man surrendered voluntarily around midday on Sunday. He was transported via helicopter to a hospital to treat self-inflicted wounds, including a neck injury. The Ministry of Equality has confirmed the case as gender-based violence. While the victim was previously registered in the VioGén system due to a prior relationship, the current suspect was not. The Guardia Civil is investigating the incident, noting that the victim and the suspect had a child together, and some neighbors reported that the minor may have witnessed the crime. Additionally, reports indicate the victim was a user of local women’s information services. Francisco Toscano, the government subdelegate in Sevilla, noted that this event represents the second gender-based murder in the province of Sevilla this year. This incident contributes to a total of 38 such killings reported in Spain so far in 2026. The Andalusian government has also condemned the act, describing it as a tragic instance of gender violence in the region.
