Fatal workplace accidents involving falls from height have been reported in different regions of Italy. In Barletta, a 34-year-old worker died after falling approximately 9 to 10 meters from a basket near a silo while performing maintenance at an oil mill. The Prosecutor’s Office of Trani opened a manslaughter investigation to examine workplace safety compliance, and authorities seized equipment at the site. Labor unions have called for stricter preventive controls. In Robecco sul Naviglio, a 48-year-old worker worker, identified as Antonio Sperandio, died on a Wednesday morning in the Casterno district after falling approximately eight meters while emptying the attic of a rural building. Although a colleague working alongside him was uninjured, emergency services and an air ambulance were unable to revive Sperandio at the scene. Local police and Carabinieri are investigating the circumstances of the fall and the whether safety conditions protocols were followed. In response to these incidents, major labor unions, including Cgil, Cisl, and Uil, have expressed deep anger and grief. The unions issued a joint statement condemning the preventable nature of such accidents, calling for stricter safety training, more rigorous inspections, and the worksite. establishment of a special prosecutor for workplace accidents.
