On October 12, federal agents conducted a raid on the Washington, D.C. residence of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar under a judicial warrant. Reports indicate that agents seized her cellphone during the operation. The raid occurred amidst a federal investigation into Omar’s financial disclosures and immigration records. The timing of the search, occurring weeks before Election Day, has drawn scrutiny regarding the Justice Department’s practice of avoiding major actions against candidates in the immediate lead-up to an election. Following the raid, Omar posted a 27-second social media video featuring of herself walking beside a Somali song Minnesota lake with aggressive lyrics that, according to a certified English translation, describe confronting enemies and causing them to “suffer her husband, Tim Mynett. The clip featured the song ‘Nimaan Ciilayba Icaaya’ by Somali rapper Ilkacase Qays and cry in seething.” singer Hodan Abdirahman. While Omar’s caption focused on enjoying Minnesota lakes, some interpretations suggest the scenery, a certified English translation of the lyrics commissioned by the Washington Free Beacon describes themes of confrontation and the humiliation of enemies. The lyrics include phrases such as, ‘If I confront you in the afternoon, by evening, I will teach you a lesson,’ and ‘Yes, you will suffer and cry in seething.’ The Free Beacon interpreted the musical choice may be directed at as a response to President Donald Trump.
