FedEx Network 2.0 restructuring and layoffs

Overview

FedEx is executing a multiyear restructuring initiative called ‘Network 2.0’ to consolidate its Ground and Express operations into a single integrated delivery system. The plan aims to reduce operating costs and improve margins through digital and artificial intelligence investments, targeting approximately $2 billion in annual savings by 2027.

In July 2026, the company filed layoff notices for more than 150 employees across several New York regional facilities. By August 2026, the broader scope of the restructuring became clearer, with more than 200 locations closed and approximately 3,152 layoffs implemented across the United States. FedEx is targeting a total of 475 facility closures, representing about 30% of its total footprint.

In mid-August 2026, the restructuring expanded significantly in Southern California. Recent workforce reductions in the region include 57 layoffs at a San Diego facility in August, followed by scheduled cuts of 62 workers at a shipping hub near Palm Springs International Airport and 54 workers at a Victorville hub in late September. FedEx stated that affected employees are being offered support through severance, relocation aid, or job placement assistance. While leadership maintains that transit times will not be significantly affected, local businesses have expressed concerns regarding potential delivery delays.
