On September 8, 19-year-old Elías Barrionuevo allegedly shot and killed his 18-year-old girlfriend, Camila Ruth Marful Castro, during a dispute in the San Alberto neighborhood of Ituzaingó, Argentina. The confrontation, reportedly motivated by jealousy, also resulted in injuries to the victim’s stepfather, Jorge González, who was shot in the legs while attempting to intervene. Castro died after being transported to Hospital Bicentenario. Barrionuevo, who became a fugitive following the attack, was apprehended in General Rodríguez by the Morón DDI and the Ituzaingó Tactical Operations Group. Two additional men, identified as Héctor Nahuel Lobos and Carlos Míguez, were also detained for allegedly providing shelter to the suspect. Barrionuevo faces charges of aggravated homicide for femicide and attempted murder. While the suspect has denied the accusations in a video, claiming the shooting was an ‘unforeseen’ event during a struggle involving the stepfather, judicial authorities are proceeding with the investigation. The case is being led by Prosecutor Florencia Di Sciascio as forensic evidence and testimonies are analyzed.
