Legal and criminal proceedings regarding femicide cases have emerged in Minas Gerais. In one instance, the Court of Justice of Minas Gerais (TJMG) ordered a jury trial for a man accused of killing a former partner who had been missing since 2012. The case involves evidence of prior domestic violence and disputes over child custody. In a separate recent development, the body of 27-year-old Beatriz Vitória Aparecida Neves Mota was discovered in a shallow grave in Jaboticatubas. Following her disappearance in October, police arrested two suspects, including the victim’s ex-boyfriend, on suspicion of premeditated femicide and concealment of a corpse. Investigators are examining potential motives related to jealousy and the possibility that the crime involved torture. Authorities have identified the suspects as 18-year-old Samuel Castro Melo and 23-year-old Carla Luiza da Silva. The victim disappeared on October 9 after leaving a bar in Jaboticatubas, and her body was located on October 21 in a rural area. The victim’s hands and feet were found tied. A 15-year-old witness, who was present in a vehicle with the suspects on the night of the disappearance, provided testimony that helped locate the body. Investigators are currently analyzing forensic evidence and mobile phone data to confirm the circumstances of the crime.
