In July 2026 Fiat commemorated the 50th anniversary of the Fiat 147, the first model it built in Brazil. Production began in 1976 at the Betim plant in Minas Gerais and the car was officially launched in Ouro Preto. The compact hatchback was adapted to local conditions and, in 1979, became the world’s first mass‑produced vehicle to run solely on ethanol, earning the nickname “Cachacinha.” Over the decades the 147 spawned variants such as the Panorama wagon and a small pickup, helped establish Fiat’s presence in the Brazilian market, and laid the groundwork for today’s flex‑fuel fleet. The anniversary celebration highlighted the model’s pioneering role in ethanol use and its lasting influence on Brazil’s automotive industry. As part of the festivities Fiat launched a limited‑edition “Fiat Collection” of detailed scale models, featuring the 147 alongside other iconic Brazilian models such as the Uno, Strada and Toro. The miniatures, together with advertising campaigns and cultural projects, were used to reinforce the brand’s heritage and its connection with Brazilian consumers under the Stellantis group. These events underscored the 147’s technical innovations—transverse engine layout, radial tyres and laminated windscreen—and its legacy in Brazil’s modern flex‑fuel market. In August 2026 Fiat expanded the celebration by releasing the “Fiat Collection” miniatures of the 147, Uno (with its roof ladder) and Strada pickup through TikTok Shop, Fiatwear and retailer Ri Happy. Buyers purchasing a miniature between 3 August and 2 October could register for a chance to win R$150 vouchers and tours of Fiat’s Minas Gerais and Italian plants, marking the first time a carmaker marketed products on TikTok Shop in Brazil.
