In late August 2026, the second edition of the ‘Cortos del Barrio’ film festival launched in Ecuador. Organized by Banco del Barrio, PeiGo, and the Instituto Tecnológico Superior Universitario de Estudios ITV, the competition encourages youth aged 15 and older to create short films based on community stories under the theme ‘Tu barrio, tu historia, tu cine’. By September, various film-related cultural events were scheduled across the region. In Ecuador, the Eurocine 2026 festival was set to run from September 9 to September 20, featuring 37 European films across Quito and seven other cities to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the 8ymedio independent cinema space. The festival, which includes films from 11 different countries, is scheduled to open with Federico Fellini’s ‘8½’. Simultaneously, Argentina hosted several cinematic initiatives. The Centro Cultural Universitario in Corrientes scheduled a cinema cycle titled ‘La vuelta al mundo en 80 planos’, featuring works by directors such as Stanley Kubrick, Pedro Almodóvar, and Akira Kurosawa. Additionally, Argentina held the ‘Fiesta del Cine’ from September 10 to 16, offering promotional ticket prices of $5,000 for 2D and 3D screenings. This event featured new releases like ‘Spider-Man’ and ‘Toy Story 5’, alongside re-releases of classics such as the ‘Back to the Future’ trilogy and ‘Shrek’, with 4D formats available at a discounted rate of $10,000. Participating theaters in Argentina include Cinemark Hoyts, Cinépolis, and Multiplex, with screenings including ‘Spider-Man: Un Nuevo Día’.
