Several film festivals are scheduled to take place in late 2026 across Portugal, Brazil, and Angola. In Portugal, the Doclisboa festival will run from October 15 to 25, presenting a program of 198 films from 51 countries. The event includes 32 Portuguese productions, with 11 works participating in the national competition. The festival will open with Edgar Pêra’s ‘Guerrilha no Asfalto’ and conclude with Alain Cavalier’s ‘Thanks for Coming’. In Brazil, the 28th Festival do Rio is currently underway in Rio de Janeiro, Janeiro and Niterói, running from October 1 to 11, 2026. The festival features lineup has expanded to include over 300 350 films, including comprising feature films, shorts, and series. The international award winners from selection features more than 100 titles recognized at major festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Berlin, Toronto, San Sebastián, and Locarno. A central component is the Première Brasil showcase, which highlights Sundance, with works by directors including Hirokazu Kore-eda, Asghar Farhadi, and Danny Boyle. The festival aims to democratize cinema access through free screenings at the FGV Esplanada and various community centers. Additionally, the 14th FRAPA in Porto Alegre will focus on audiovisual screenwriting. In Angola, the Luanda International Film Festival (FIC) is set to return on October 28 following an 11-year hiatus. The festival will feature over 100 films from 20 countries, with Nigeria serving as the guest nation.
