The 31st and final season of the German music series ‘Immer wieder sonntags’ concluded on 6 September 2026, followed by a ‘Best-of 2026’ retrospective on 13 September. The discontinuation by SWR and ARD was attributed to budget ~~constraints~~ constraints, declining viewership, and a strategic shift toward digital formats and younger audiences. Following the finale, host Stefan Mross expressed gratitude to his community via Instagram while taking a break in the Swiss Alps. While Mross has been exploring new opportunities, including an appearance on ‘The Masked Singer’, speculation regarding a revival has intensified. Roland Mack, founder of Europa-Park—the show’s venue since 1995—previously expressed interest in continuing the program. Reports indicate that both Europa-Park and several TV broadcasters have expressed interest in potential future projects for Mross. In late October, Mross fueled further speculation through an Instagram video filmed at Europa-Park. While remaining cryptic about the specifics of his current professional engagements, he stated, “Whether that has to do with ‘Immer wieder sonntags,’ I cannot tell you.” Amidst these developments, Mross has used social media to reflect on his career milestones. He recently revisited his early success at the 1989 Grand Prix of Folk Music in Austria, where, at age 13, he won first place and earned a gold record for ‘Heimwehmelodie’. Despite the official cancellation of the long-running format, Mross has previously indicated he does not intend to retire from the program.
