Legal and financial disputes have emerged involving prominent Greek musical artists. In September 2026, the Athens Court of Appeal ordered singers Kaiti Garbi and Dionysis Schinas to return advance payments totaling 60,000 euros to businessman Giannis Tsakoumakos following a failed business agreement. The court overturned a lower ruling, noting the artists failed to prove a legal basis for retaining the funds. Including interest and legal costs, the total obligation is estimated at approximately 100,000 euros. Consequently, authorities have frozen the artists' bank accounts and seized tickets for their upcoming Katrakeio concert, which has been rescheduled. By October 2026, a separate financial dispute escalated between singer Anna Vissi and composer Nikos Karvelas regarding her large-scale concert at OAKA. Karvelas has sought compensation between 300,000 and 1.5 million euros, citing unpaid copyrights, and has filed legal injunctions to prohibit Vissi from performing more than 400 songs he wrote for her. Vissi has accused Karvelas of ‘hypocrisy and populism’, while her legal team alleges Karvelas owes her approximately 500,000 euros in loans. This impasse has led to the cancellation of a collaborative musical project between the two. The conflict has drawn scrutiny from the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE). Investigators are examining Karvelas regarding alleged undeclared income of approximately 850,000 euros, while Vissi is facing audits concerning VAT compliance and ticket revenues from her major concerts and European tours. In response to the rift, Karvelas has revoked the authority of previous management bodies to handle his rights, requiring artists such as Sakis Rouvas and Giannis Ploutarchos to seek his personal authorization to perform his works. Amidst these tensions, Vissi has decided to provide monthly compensation to her orchestra members after the upcoming season was canceled due to renovation delays at the ‘Arena’ nightclub.
