The youth organization Mopoilevat Nuoret ry organized a moped procession and protest in Helsinki on August 15 to address escalating tensions between moped enthusiasts and the police. The demonstration, which moved from Tattarisuo to Kansalaistori, Kansalaistori and ended near the Olympic Stadium, involved approximately 400 participants. The protest sought to advocate for a collaborative cooperation model similar to those used in Turku and Oulu to prevent unauthorized meets and disturbances. Organizers emphasized that moped culture provides a sense of community and a healthy leisure activity for youth. They are advocating for the ability to hold legal, organized moped meets in the capital region through coordination with authorities. The protest was prompted by a recent incident in Tuusula where a police vehicle reportedly forced a 15-year-old moped rider into a ditch, causing serious injury. A preliminary investigation into the incident has been launched, with both the teenager and the involved police officer facing suspicion of crimes.
