A series of fires in Mexico, Venezuela, and the Dominican Republic has resulted in both property damage and loss of life. Initial reports focused on commercial kitchen fires. In Boca del Río, Mexico, a grill overheating at a steakhouse was initially contained, but a subsequent fire completely consumed the Villa Rica Express seafood restaurant. Firefighters noted that the structure’s palm roof and strong winds contributed to the rapid spread. In Caracas, Venezuela, a short circuit and grease buildup at a Chinese restaurant led to an evacuation of approximately 20 people from a nearby residential building. Subsequent incidents involved residential structures. In Ocumare del Tuy, Venezuela, a fire in a home built with improvised materials killed three children, aged one, four, and six. In Los Dos Caminos, a high-rise apartment fire destroyed one room, though a closed door reportedly prevented further spread. In the Dominican Republic, a fire in Las Mulas destroyed a home containing a historic altar dedicated to the Virgen de la Altagracia. México also saw further residential losses. In Mérida, a residence in the Dzununcán district was destroyed by fire while the owner was attending a wake; no injuries were reported.
