First Quantum Taca Taca copper project in Argentina
Overview
First Quantum Minerals (FQM) is advancing its Taca Taca copper project in Argentina’s Salta Province, a development expected to require an initial capital investment of approximately US$4.2 billion. The project aims to produce roughly 291,000 tonnes of copper annually over a projected 35-year mine life to meet global demand.
While the company initially planned to apply for the country’s Large Investment Incentive Regime (RIGI) earlier in the year, it has since adjusted its timeline. FQM now expects to submit the project for RIGI incentives before the end of 2026.
Regulatory processes continue as the Salta Mining Secretariat evaluates the project’s Environmental and Social Impact Statement. A public hearing is scheduled for November 12 in Tolar Grande. Although the company has secured a water feasibility certificate for the first stage, specific details regarding full water concessions and control conditions have not yet been publicly released.
