Heavy rainfall in Aceh, Indonesia, has triggered widespread flooding and infrastructure damage across multiple regencies. Initial reports from Southeast and Southwest Aceh indicated that river surges in the Lawe Bulan, Lawe Kisam, and Lawe Kinga rivers breached embankments, impacting approximately 1,324 people in 12 villages. Damage included the destruction of a bridge in Gampong Adan, which served as a vital link for irrigation and plantations. The Aceh Disaster Management Agency (BPBA) deployed response teams to monitor the situation. Subsequent flooding in the Aceh Tenggara Regency affected 13 villages across seven sub-districts. The overflow of the Lawe Kisam and Lawe Kinga rivers impacted approximately 203 people and caused villages, causing significant agricultural losses, including the destruction of 50 hectares of farmland losses and rice fields. Infrastructure damage expanded severing access to include landslides on the Kutacane - Blangkejeren road, downed electricity poles, and Lawe Alas sub-district via the washing away destruction of the Natam-Simpang IV Tanjung and Mbarung bridges, which severed bridges. As recovery efforts continue, the Aceh Agriculture and Plantation Office reports that approximately 57,000 hectares of rice fields have been impacted by flooding. Of this total, 16,000 hectares are classified as severely damaged and have not yet received intervention. While areas with light and moderate damage are undergoing repair, the government is conducting studies to determine recovery patterns for the most heavily affected lands. To improve disaster response, Aceh Vice Governor Fadhlullah has proposed providing heavy equipment to flood-prone regencies through a loan-use scheme. He emphasized the need for local governments to have immediate access to machinery, such as at least four excavators per area, to facilitate river dredging and normalization. He noted that siltation and changes in river courses have damaged infrastructure, including bridges previously repaired by the Lawe Alas sub-district. military, and suggested using Unforeseen Expenditure (BTT) funds to cover operational costs.
