Severe flash floods and heavy rainfall have caused widespread destruction in northern Thailand, particularly in Nan province. The disaster has resulted in at least two deaths and five injuries, with more than 30,000 people affected. In Nan, approximately 13,000 homes have sustained damage across the Pua, Tha Wang Pha, Phu Phiang, and Santisuk districts. Heavy rains in forested mountainous areas, with some regions recording up to 300mm of rainfall within four hours, triggered rapid runoff and mudslides into lower-lying communities. This has caused significant infrastructure damage, including the collapse of roads and the destruction of highway networks. The Department of Highways has deployed emergency crews and heavy machinery to clear landslides and repair washed-out sections of Highway 1256 and Highway 1371. In response, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has initiated a rapid action plan involving early evacuations and the establishment of temporary shelters. Approximately 2,000 residents in the hardest-hit villages across Nan and Mae Hong Son provinces have been moved to higher ground. Deputy Prime Minister Yotsachanan Wongswasdi Yodchanan Wongsawat has visited affected areas to monitor relief efforts and has issued warnings regarding potential landslides in the Chaloem Phra Kiat, Thung Chang, and Bo Kluea districts due to sustained rainfall. districts.
