Following the 1-0 victory by Fluminense in regulation time at Nubank Parque, which leveled the aggregate score at 2-2, Palmeiras secured a place in the Copa Libertadores final through a penalty shootout. In the shootout, Palmeiras converted all five attempts via Maurício, Gustavo Gómez, Ramón Sosa, Piquerez, and Marlon Freitas. Fluminense successfully converted three attempts through Thiago Silva, Hércules, and Guilherme Arana, but goalkeeper Carlos Miguel secured the 5-3 shootout victory by saving Nonato’s attempt. The match was also marked by physical challenges, including an injury to defender Julián Millán during the first half. This marks the eighth time in club history that Palmeiras has reached the final, and the fourth such appearance for manager Abel Ferreira in seven years. The final is scheduled for November 28 at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, Uruguay, where Palmeiras will face the winner of the match between Flamengo and Estudiantes de La Plata. Recent details clarify that the 1-0 second-leg loss was secured by a goal from Hércules in the 82nd minute, following a 2-1 victory for Palmeiras in the first leg. The elimination carries significant financial implications for Fluminense, which missed out on a guaranteed minimum of approximately R$ 35.2 million (US$ 7 million) for reaching the final. Fluminense captain Thiago Silva expressed deep disappointment following the exit, noting the emotional impact on the fans. During the victory, concerns emerged regarding Palmeiras striker Paulinho, who left the pitch in pain following a heavy challenge. ~~Given his history of leg injuries, manager Abel Ferreira noted the physical and emotional difficulty of managing such recurring issues.~~ Medical evaluations regarding Paulinho's calf trauma indicated that the injury was not a fracture, though the player remains under observation.
