Fluminense continues to manage significant roster shortages due to injuries to key players. Midfielder Martinelli is undergoing arthroscopy for a lateral meniscus injury in his left knee, a procedure requiring a six-week recovery that will sideline him for upcoming international friendly matches. Defender Julián Millán is also sidelined for four to six weeks with a grade 2 right adductor muscle injury, potentially missing the end of the 2026 season. These absences occur as the club focuses on the Campeonato Brasileiro following their elimination from the Copa Libertadores semifinals. On the pitch, Fluminense suffered a 2-1 defeat against Chapecoense at the Arena Condá during the 32nd round of the Campeonato Brasileiro. Yannick Bolasie ~~scored~~ opened the scoring for Chapecoense in the ~~first half,~~ eighth minute following a defensive error, followed by a second-half goal from Giovanni Augusto. Although Guga equalized for Fluminense ~~before halftime~~ in the 29th minute following a Hulk header, the team could not find a late equalizer despite controlling much of the possession. The team appeared to struggle with creativity and the emotional impact of their recent Libertadores exit. This loss marks Fluminense’s third consecutive defeat in the competition, leaving them in fifth place with 51 points and further from the G-4 qualification zone. Coach Marcão criticized the team’s “technical failures and lack of execution.” Conversely, the victory provides a boost for Chapecoense in their fight against relegation, ending a five-game winless streak, though they remain in last place with 21 points.
