The cost of the basic food basket in Cuiabá, Mato Grosso, has experienced a sustained increase throughout mid-September. In the second week of the month, prices rose by 3.45% to an average of R$ 889.00, driven significantly by surges in potato and tomato prices due to heavy rains in production regions. By the third week of September, the cost reached a new semi-annual record of R$ 900.16, marking the third consecutive weekly rise. This represents a 13.56% increase compared to the same period last year. The upward trend is largely driven by tomato prices, which rose 8.94% in a single week as rainy weather delayed fruit maturation. While price decreases in items such as bananas and French bread have provided some relief, the overall cost of essential goods continues to challenge family budgets.
