Food safety enforcement in North Macedonia

Overview

Authorities in North Macedonia have conducted enforcement actions against illegal food sales and expired products.

In Gostivar, a joint operation involving the Food and Veterinary Agency (AUV) and local police resulted in the seizure and destruction of 150 kilograms of expired meat. The confiscated product lacked proper documentation, including a formal declaration of origin and an expiration date. The meat was disposed of at the ‘Rusino’ landfill.

In Skopje, a coordinated inspection by municipal inspectors, the State Market Inspectorate, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs targeted illegal agricultural vendors near Bit Pazar. During this operation, authorities removed approximately 500 kilograms of fruits and vegetables from illegal stalls and cleared unauthorized selling equipment from pedestrian and bicycle paths.
