Italian authorities, including the Carabinieri’s Anti-Sophistication and Health Nucleus (NAS), continue to conduct food safety and fraud inspections across several regions, targeting hygiene, structural, and traceability violations. In the Piana del Sele area, a dairy production facility was suspended due to severe sanitary issues, including flying and crawling insects. In Irpinia, a bakery was shut down for hygiene and workplace safety violations, alongside the discovery of undocumented workers. Other inspections in Cilento and Valle Metelliana resulted in formal warnings regarding sanitary deficiencies. Recent enforcement has expanded to Catania, where a bar-pasticceria was suspended following cockroach infestations, and Salerno, where 150 kilograms of expired food were seized. Efforts to combat food fraud included an incident in Val Musone near Osimo, where a bar representative was reported for misrepresenting frozen bakery products as fresh. In Palermo, police operations at the Foro Italico targeted street food vendors for unauthorized land occupation and lack of HACCP documentation, resulting in nearly 5,000 euros in fines. Further inspections by the Carabinieri del NAS in the Palermo province led to the closure of three fishmongers—one operating illegally—and penalties for two gelaterias. In the Modena region, inspections at an ethnic market and a pizzeria resulted in fines totaling 2,000 euros. Recent extraordinary inspections in Rome’s Trastevere district identified significant irregularities in two dining establishments, with total sanctions reaching nearly 100,000 euros. In Naples, the Carabinieri of the Bagnoli Company and ASL Napoli 1 inspected five businesses in the Posillipo area. Two bars were fined 1,000 euros each due to structural, hygienic, and general hygiene non-conformities, with one bar facing the suspension and clearing of its outdoor area. A pub and a restaurant also showed non-conformities, while a delicatessen received five violations, including breaches of HACCP food safety protocols, contributing to total fines of 2,000 euros.
