Food security and nutritional health initiatives in Brazil/|

Overview

Efforts to improve nutrition and food security in Brazil and Portugal have expanded from broad social welfare and school-based programs to specialized medical and dietary health initiatives.

In Brazil, municipal and state governments have utilized the National School Feeding Program (PNAE) to provide balanced meals and support local family farming. Social welfare efforts include the inauguration of community kitchens in Bahia and food distribution by collectives in Brasília to advocate for food sovereignty. In Portugal, educational institutions have focused on student sensitization through food fairs and workshops on local ingredients.

More recent developments show a shift toward specialized gastrointestinal wellness. In Portugal, educational sessions have been organized to address chronic inflammation and gut microbiota health. Similarly, in Brazil, mobile clinical projects have been deployed to provide free, evidence-based medical and nutritional consultations regarding digestive health.
